Windows Movie Directions
Open Windows Movie Maker:
-Click “Start.” Move the mouse over “All Programs,” “Accessories,” click “Windows Movie Maker.”
Import a Video:
-Connect the camcorder to the computer. Every camcorder is different. See the manual that came with the camcorder for specific instructions.
-Open Windows Movie Maker. (see above)
-Click “Start,” “All Programs,” “Accessories,” then “Windows Movie Maker.” This will open Windows Movie Maker so the videa can be imported.
-Click “Record” and a window will pop up. Click the blue drop down arrow to the right of “Record” Choose to import Video, Audio, or Video and Audio by clicking the desired option.
-Press play on the camcorder. Then click “Record” when the footage to be imported is displayed on the computer screen. When all the desired footage has been imported, click “Stop.”
-Type a name for the video and click “OK.” Press enter. When the video is imported, clips will automatically be made. A thumbnail image of the desired clips will be displayed.
Download Audio and add to the Video:
-Choose “Import” from the file menu. Double click the desired folder, and then double click the desired sound file.
-Click the scroll bar and hold down the mouse button. Drag the scroll bar up or down to scroll through the selections.
-Click the music clip and hold down the mouse button. Drag the music clip to the gray scroll bar below the video timeline and release the mouse button.
-To adjust the toolbar, position the mouse above a click bar and right click. Click the desired option.
-Click a clip and hold down the mouse button. Drag the clip to the desired location on the timeline at the bottom of the screen. Release the mouse button. Do this for all clips desired in the movie.
-To change clip’s order, once a clip is in the timeline, click the clip to be moved, hold down the mouse button, drag the clip to the desired location on the timeline and release the mouse button.
Preview a Clip:
-Click the desired Clip. Press the play button below the display monitor.
Trim the Beginning of a Clip:
-Click a clip to select it.
-There is a “Seek bar” directly below the display monitor. When an area is clicked in the scroll bar, the clip will go to the corresponding location in the selected clip. Click the area in the seek bar that corresponds with the desired beginning of the clip.
-Choose “Set Start of Trim Position” from the Clip menu to trim the clip to begin at the selected part of the clip.
Trim the End of a Clip:
-Click the clip to select it.
-Position the arrow in the “Seek bar” at the location of the desired end of the clip.
-Choose “Set End Trim Point” to trim the end of the clip.
Un-Trim a Clip:
-Click the clip to select it
-Choose “Clear Trim Points” from the Clip menu
Split a Clip:
-Click a clip to select it
-Move the arrow in the “Seek Bar” to the desired location of where the clip will be split.
-Choose “Split” from the Clip menu
Switch to Timeline View:
-Click the ruler like icon at the bottom left of the screen. This will display the edited movie with a timeline for the audio and video
-Click the last clip in the timeline in order to select it
-Click in the blue area directly above the clip and hold down the mouse button. Drag the clip to the desired location in the timeline and release the mouse button.
Save a movie:
-Click the disk icon towards the top of the screen
-Type in a name for the movie and click “Save”
Preview entire movie:
-Click in last empty box on timeline
-Click above scroll bar at far right of screen to scroll up
-Click the play button below the monitor and watch video
Save movie as a file:
-Click “Save Movie” towards the top center of the screen
-Specify a quality setting for the movie by clicking the blue drop down arrows to the right of setting. Click the desired quality of the movie to be downloaded. The download time can be viewed in the center of the window. Click in the box to the right of “Title” and type a name for the movie and click “OK.”
-Type a name for the file the movie will be saved in by clicking in the “File Name” box. Erase the old name and type the new name. Click “Save”
-A popup window will appear asking if it is desired to view the movie. Click “Yes” to view the movie, or click “No.” If no is clicked, the movie will still be saved.
E-mail a movie:
-Chose “Send Movie To” from the File menu and click e-mail
-Choose a quality for the movie. Lower quality is usually easier to e-mail. Click in the “Title” box and type a title. Click “OK.”
-Enter a name for the movie to be e-mailed and click “OK”
-Click the name of the desired type of e-mail to be used to send the movie and click “OK”
-A message will be created with the movie file attached. Address the message and type a subject. Then click “Send”
