The Boxcar Children

Series is about a family of four children: Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny. Who are recently orphaned. Wrongly believing their grandfather is a cruel old man, they run away, discover an abandoned box car in a forest, make it home, and have adventures based on their new lives.

Later they discover their beliefs about their grandfather are false. And they end up living with him and he moves the boxcar to his backyard.

Gertrude wrote 19 books in the series, however there are now over 100 in the series.
