Students worked in groups of three.  They worked together to attempt to solve the problem.  Most of the students tried solving the problem by looking at the patterns.  It was hard for the students to find an equation.  While most of the students could find the pattern.  However, only a few found the equation of the pattern.  I would suggest for the future that to try to mix students so sharing their different ideas might have a higher probability of them being successful.
