Counting Objects

Show students a collection of 4 nearly identical OBJECTS not arranged in a pattern. Ask them how many OBJECTS there are. If the student is successful continue with the following 8, 12, 16, 24 and ask if they can count in ways other than ones.

Summary
Student knows one-to-one correspondence (connects the counting sequence in a one-to-one manner).

For objects of 4, 8, 12, 16, and 24.

Student knows cardinality (identifies the value of objects). For objects of 4, 8, 12, 16, and 24.

Student counts by more than ones. Counted by 2’s, 5’s, other

Student uses visualization abilities to recognizes patterns of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 to identify cardinality.
