Support services

Wayne State college provides an array of services to assist students including the US Conn Library and computer labs located in the Library and most other buildings on campus. The Learning Center located in the lower level of the student center, provides assistance in career planning, goal setting, personal assessment, stress management and individual and group counseling. For more information contact the Dean of Student's Office (375-7213).

Academic Honesty

Students are encouraged and expected to conduct themselves in conformance with the highest of standards. For example: submit materials that have been created by the student during the time frame of the class and books and journal articles read for class credit must be read during the class session. Any use of copyrighted resources and other people's ideas are required to include a reference. It is recommended that students seek advice from the instructor if clarification is needed.

Course evaluation

Grades will be based on participation and the student's performance. Assignments will be assessed as high quality, acceptable, or unacceptable. Students are encouraged to show and discuss assignments with the instructor as they plan and work on them for feedback and feedforward.

High quality

is defined as work that goes beyond the quality criteria, acceptable responses, or acceptable completion of an activity. Projects, activities, and assignments will be evaluated by the quality criteria with high quality including: references to multiple sources, inclusion of reflection on experiences which have happened or may happen, application of ideas, combining ideas to create new ideas, analysis of ideas with rationale and reasons of positions, comprehensive work with significant detail or multidimensional in nature, using analysis and synthesis to combine ideas to solve a problem, and evaluation of ideas with multiple standards.

A   Significant class participation. Submission of all required assignments evaluated as high quality indicative of a comprehensive understanding of course goals.
A- to B Acceptable class participation. Submission of all required assignments evaluated as high quality and acceptable and may be indicative of understanding of course goals.
B-   Unacceptable class participation. Submission of all required assignments evaluated as acceptable and may be indicative of understanding of course goals.
C or lower   Unacceptable class participation. Missing one or more of required assignments.

Students are strongly encouraged to ask questions, enter in discussions, and share projects/activities/assignments with class members as well as the instructor as they plan and work on assignments. Projects, activities, and assignments will be evaluated by the quality criteria with

Class participation

Will be evaluated by the completion of class activities and your contribution in assisting the learning of other students through discussions, completion of activities, and asking appropriate questions. It is obvious that nonparticipation or minimal participation contributes less positively in assisting others learning or completion of class requirements. It is also obvious that there may be times that extenuating circumstances may reduce participation. Lack of participation will result in a proportional loss of learning. Some examples of class participation are posting questions, responding to posts, posting suggestions and assignments for groups, cooperating with group memebers to complete and post group assignments, submission of assignments and other requests on time.
